Who Am I? Adopted

WHO AM I? ADOPTED

The dictionary definition of the word 'adopt' is "to legally take another's child and bring it up as one's own." The Bible says that we used to belong to the devil. We had sinned and destroyed the relationship we had with a holy God. As a result we deserved to face the anger of God.

But look at this verse in Ephesians: "God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure." (Ephesians 1:5 NLT)

Soak in this truth: God decided, in spite of all that we had done, to take us who belonged to the devil and bring us up as His very own. Remember, the definition of adopt is to legally take another's child and bring it up as one's own. He legally did this by paying the price needed for us to become His children, and that price was the blood of Jesus. I am 100% certain that this would have been difficult and painful for God and Jesus, but the other truth in this Scripture is that not only did He want to do this, but it also gave Him great pleasure. In other words, it gave God delight to do this, it was satisfying for Him to do this, and it fulfilled His desires.

His desire is you and me. We are the object of His desires and affection. And as a result, because of Jesus, we are adopted as His children, and we have the privilege of calling God 'Father'.

"For it was always in his perfect plan to adopt us as his delightful children, through our union with Jesus, the Anointed One, so that his tremendous love that cascades over us would glorify his grace —for the same love he has for the Beloved, Jesus, he has for us. And this unfolding plan brings him great pleasure!" (Ephesians 1:5-6 TPT)
