Stop Remembering What God has Forgotten
Psalm 103:12 says that "He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west." It's such an incredible truth for us to soak in. When God says that He no longer remembers our sin, He means it!
Now thinking about that concept can be confusing, because there's nothing God cannot do right? So how can He forget our sins and mistakes? Perhaps we need to redefine our understanding of the word 'forget' according to Scripture. The word actually means to choose not to bring something to mind. So it's not that God has forgotten our sins in the same way that I forget where I put my car keys (something that happens way too often), but when God looks at us, He chooses not to see those things about us, because thanks to Jesus those things are dealt with. The price is paid. He has no need to remember them. It's done and dusted.
If you're anything like me however, I often see myself through the lens of my sin and mistakes and can find them hard to let go of. This in turn can create a cycle of shame that is never helpful to our lives.
But that's the good news of the Gospel: we don't need to and we don't have to! We can also put those things in the past and choose not to bring them to remembrance because the price has been paid and they have been dealt with.
I want to encourage you today through this Scripture. Don't hold onto your past mistakes. There is nothing God cannot forgive. Sometimes the hardest person to forgive is ourselves. But our Heavenly Dad has forgiven and forgotten. Stop remembering what God has forgotten.
