30 Days of Promises - #28
"GOD WILL WORK ALL THINGS FOR GOOD"
This verse would have to be one of the most quoted verses in Scripture, however, the promise being made is still powerful! Romans 8:28 says...
"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them." (Romans 8:28 NLT)
Isn't that amazing? God will cause EVERYTHING to work together for the good of those who love Him! That means the good, the bad and the ugly in your life is used by Him.
But what is the 'good' according to this verse? Well, Romans 8:29 gives a little more context on this:
"For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters." (Romans 8:29 NLT)
The 'good', according to this verse, is God uses all situations to change our character and nature to look more and more like Jesus. This verse then says 'so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.'
My wife and my sister-in-law have a very strong resemblance, both in their appearance and in the way they speak. People often mistake them for each other, because they are sisters, and share many similarities as a result. When we are in Christ, we become Jesus' brother or sister, which means that His very nature and DNA also become a part of who we are. God uses all things to shape us so that our lives show that we are in fact connected to Jesus. The way we think, speak and act then becomes more and more similar to how Jesus thinks, speaks and acts, which creates this family of people on earth who live like Jesus.
The definition of 'good' in this verse means the following: properly beautiful, good (literally or morally), valuable or virtuous, better, fair, honest and worthy. There's a lot going on in our lives when God is at work - and He promises He is working it all for good!
